In January, a group of people from all over Europe met for the first time at the Kick-off Meeting of CAMbrella in Munich. The meeting took place in the impressive surroundings of the Nymphenburg Castle.
The patients’ perspective – CAMbrella work package 4
A presentation of the CAMbrella workpackage focusing on CAM use and reasons for CAM use among the European citizens. WP4 will explore the prevalence of CAM use in Europe, and the task will terminate in December 2011 at a workshop, finishing the final report on CAM use.

CAM in Italy
In Italy, CAM treatments are not reimbursed by the public health service, so CAM therapies and remedies are usually paid for by the citizens. The Supreme Court has stated that it is an abuse of the medical profession to practice CAM without a degree in medicine.
International Congress on CAM Research, May 2010
The 2010 International Congress on Complementary Medicine Research will be held in Tromsø, Norway. The local host of the congress is NAFKAM (National Research Center in Complementary and Alternative Medicine) in conjunction with ISCMR (International Society for Complementary Medicine Research). CAMbrella will be presented at a symposium Wednesday May 19, chaired by George Lewith (Southampton). The session gives a brief introduction of CAMbrella and a first presentation of the work plans of the different work groups established under CAMbrella.
ICMART – a CAM stakeholder
In Europe, approximately 80.000 registered physicians practice acupuncture. International Council of Medical Acupuncture and Related Techniques is an organisation representing 44 countries, and The European Chapter is working on the official recognition of acupuncture.
CAMbrella at the 5th International Congress on Complementary Medicine Research
The CAMbrella project will present itself before the international researchers’ public at the major congress in Trømsø, Norway, which takes place on May 19-21, 2010, and invite discussion on the various topics it will have to answer.
New CAM chair in Munich
April 29, 2010 has seen the inaugural lecture of Dieter Melchart as the latest CAM chair holder at a German university. The event highlights this new step in the development of the CAM department at the Klinikum rechts der Isar.
